In short: the IPREM in Spain in 2026 is €600 a month (€20 a day and €7,200 a year). It is an official reference figure, not a salary or a benefit: laws use it to set how much money you have to prove, or how high an income a benefit allows. In immigration rules it appears in five articles of the regulation: non-lucrative residence (400%), family reunification (150%), study visa (100%), arraigo social with resident family (at least 100%) and housing for seasonal work (15% and 22%).

What the IPREM is and where the figure comes from

  • The IPREM (Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples, the public indicator of income for multiple purposes) is the reference many rules use to measure income. It replaced the minimum wage (SMI) in that role. Article 2 of Royal Decree-law 3/2004 created it and leaves it to the State Budget law (PGE) to set its amount each year.
  • The current amount is in additional provision 90 (DA 90) of Law 31/2022, the 2023 budget law: €20 a day, €600 a month and €7,200 a year.
  • If a rule used to speak of the minimum wage on an annual basis and now speaks of the IPREM, the annual IPREM is €8,400 (14 payments). If that rule expressly excludes the extra payments, it is €7,200.
  • For 2026: DA 90 sets the figures for 2023. No new budgets were approved in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and the 2023 budget has been extended (art. 134.4 of the Constitution), so the IPREM stays at €600 a month until another law sets another figure. The consolidated text of Law 31/2022 (last update published on 30 September 2026) does not modify DA 90.

Where it shows up in immigration rules

In the consolidated text of the Immigration Regulation (RD 1155/2024) the IPREM appears in five articles. The euro amounts in the table are the percentage applied to €600, the monthly IPREM.

Procedure What the rule asks In euros
Non-lucrative residence, main applicant (art. 62) 400% of the IPREM a month €2,400 a month
Non-lucrative residence, each dependent family member (art. 62) 100% of the IPREM a month, on top of the above €600 a month per person
Family reunification, sponsor and one relative (art. 67) 150% of the IPREM €900
Family reunification, each additional member (art. 67) 50% more of the IPREM €300 per person
Study, student mobility, volunteering or training visa, main applicant (art. 35) 100% of the IPREM a month €600 a month
Same visas, first relative (art. 35) 75% of the IPREM a month €450 a month
Same visas, each following relative (art. 35) 50% of the IPREM a month €300 a month
Arraigo social with resident family (art. 127.c) at least 100% of the IPREM €600 minimum (€1,200 in total under Hoja 28)
Housing provided by the employer in seasonal work (art. 109) rent up to 15% of the IPREM; rent plus utilities up to 22% €90 and €132

The Supreme Court annulled several provisions of this regulation in 2026, but none of these five articles (below, under Jurisprudencia).

What it means for you: calculation examples

  • Non-lucrative residence. For you alone, €2,400 a month. The initial permit lasts one year and the amount is worked out for the whole period (arts. 61 and 62), so it comes to €28,800 (€2,400 for 12 months). You can prove it as savings or as a regular income of €2,400 a month (art. 62.1). With a partner and a child who depend on you: 2,400 + 600 + 600 = €3,600 a month, or €43,200 for the year. How to prove it and what else is asked: non-lucrative residence.
  • Family reunification. You and one relative: €900. You and two relatives: €900 plus €300, that is €1,200. Income counts at its full value, with the proportional part of the extra payments (income from self-employment counts as net profit). Study and housing aids, compensatory and maintenance pensions (unless paid to the person being reunited) and social-assistance income do not count (art. 67). In some cases involving minors the rule allows a lower amount, worked out on the Ingreso Mínimo Vital (the state minimum income benefit), not on the IPREM. Other requirements: family reunification.
  • Study visa. €600 a month for you, unless you prove that housing for the whole stay is already paid in advance. With two relatives: €450 for the first and €300 for the second, that is 600 + 450 + 300 = €1,350 a month. Scholarships and aids count, as do a work contract or a firm job offer if the permit lets you work, and a statement from the school or host body that it takes charge of you. What you will spend on the studies themselves does not count (art. 35). More at study stay.
  • Arraigo social with resident family. Art. 127.c sets the floor at 100% of the IPREM, that is €600. The funds must be available in Spain and may come from the resident relatives. Information sheet 28 of the Ministry of Inclusion makes it 200% in total (€1,200: 100% from the resident relative and 100% for the applicant). The other types of arraigo are in arraigo, types.
  • Seasonal work. The employer must guarantee you adequate housing during the work, preferably free of charge (art. 109). If it charges, the rent cannot exceed 15% of the IPREM (€90), and rent plus utilities cannot exceed 22% (€132), except for abusive use of utilities, which is charged at real cost.
  • Aid outside immigration rules. Many regional aids measure income in IPREM. Two examples from our cards: the aid for young people buying a home in small municipalities of the Comunitat Valenciana (annual income up to 5 times the IPREM; no call yet) and the childcare aid in public courses of the Comunidad de Madrid (income up to 75% of the IPREM). Each aid says which IPREM it uses.

Common traps

  • The IPREM is not the SMI. The minimum wage is a different indicator. For arraigo sociolaboral the contracts must guarantee at least the SMI in proportion to the working hours, or the wage in the collective agreement, not the IPREM (art. 127.b; arraigo sociolaboral). The money asked at the border does not come from the IPREM either: it is tied to the minimum wage (financial means to enter Spain).
  • Month or year. Arts. 62 and 35 say «monthly» in so many words. Arts. 67, 109 and 127.c give only the percentage, which is why the table shows the percentage of €600. Check the procedure's information sheet for how it is counted. If the annual IPREM is used, it is €7,200; €8,400 only in the cases of DA 90.d (rules that used to refer to the annual minimum wage).
  • Each procedure counts differently. Which income is valid and how it is proved changes with the procedure. In family reunification, for example, stable assets are the average of the last six months (art. 67). A figure from one card does not work for another procedure.
  • A law sets the figure. The IPREM is set by the budget law: if another one is approved, the figure changes. Before preparing a file, check the current figure in the BOE.

What you can do

  • Find your procedure in the table and open its card: non-lucrative residence, family reunification, study stay or arraigo social.
  • To get the figure for your case, multiply the percentage by €600 and add the relatives who count. Compare it with your income or savings under the rules of that card.
  • If you have minor children, irregular income or several procedures at once, talk to a professional before filing.
  • Terms such as NIE, TIE or arraigo: immigration glossary.
