Bono Alquiler Joven and the 2026-2030 Housing Plan: since 24 April 2026, Royal Decree 326/2026 provides a new rent aid for young people of up to 300 € a month. We have not found any call that applies it, and the 2026 calls we have read still follow the Bono rules, 250 € a month. Each autonomous community decides when it opens the new aid.
What changes for you today
Nothing automatically. The 2026 calls we have read in the Valencian Community, Catalonia, the Canary Islands and Extremadura still apply the Bono rules. The aid of up to 300 € will arrive when your community calls it, and as of 17 October 2026 we have not seen any call that does. The status of each community, with official links, is in the Bono Alquiler Joven card. Your rights as a tenant stay the same: renting in Spain as a foreigner.
What happened
Royal Decree 326/2026 of 22 April was published in the BOE no. 99 on 23 April 2026 and came into force on 24 April, the day after (final provision five). It regulates the State Housing Plan 2026-2030, the framework through which the State transfers money to the autonomous communities to pay housing aid. Each community that wants to apply it signs an agreement with the Ministry; 2026 funds can also reach it through a Ministry resolution that the community accepts (articles 1.5 and 6.4). The Basque Country and Navarre are left out (article 1.5).
One of those aids is the «aid for rent for the emancipation of young people» (section 3, articles 132 to 139), which each community pays to the person who rents.
The text does not say that this aid replaces the Bono Alquiler Joven, and it does not expressly repeal Royal Decree 42/2022 of 18 January, which created it. Its repealing provision only cancels what contradicts it, without naming any rule, and, in its articles, its mentions of that decree serve to extend or relax deadlines of other aids of the previous plan. The Canary Islands government does say so: in its 2026 Bono call (BOC 2026/187) it writes that the Bono ceases to exist as a stand-alone programme and that this new line replaces it. It adds that the call is transitional and is paid with State funds transferred in 2025.
How it works now
The Bono Alquiler Joven was created by Royal Decree 42/2022 of 18 January, together with the State Housing Plan 2022-2025. It is an aid for people up to 35: 250 € a month, capped at the rent, for 2 years, with income of up to 3 times the IPREM (the official index used to measure income; its value in 2026). Each community opens its own call, which is the official opening of the application window. The 2026 calls we have read in the Valencian Community, Catalonia, the Canary Islands and Extremadura apply those figures.
What changes
The new aid keeps the age and the base of 2 years, but raises the amount, the income cap and the maximum rent:
| Bono Alquiler Joven (Royal Decree 42/2022) | Plan aid (Royal Decree 326/2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| Age | up to 35 inclusive (art. 6.1.a) | up to 35 inclusive (art. 133.1.b) |
| Income | up to 3 IPREM (art. 6.1.d) | up to 5 IPREM; 5.5 with a disability of 33 % or as a child of victims of gender violence; 6 with a disability of 65 % (art. 133.1.d) |
| Amount | 250 € a month, capped at the rent (art. 11) | up to 300 € a month per home and 200 € per room, at most 60 % of the rent (art. 137) |
| Maximum rent | 600 € per home and 300 € per room; the community can raise it to 900 € and 450 € (art. 8) | 1,000 € per home and 600 € per room; 500 € and 250 € in municipalities of up to 10,000 inhabitants (art. 133.1.e); the community can raise it with housing-supply studies and the Ministry's agreement, with no maximum figure in the rule (art. 135) |
| Length | 2 years (art. 12) | 2 years, and up to 2 more if the community agrees (art. 134) |
| Non-EU foreigners | «stay or regular residence» (art. 6.1.b) | «legal residence» (art. 8.2.a) |
| Other rent aid | cannot be combined, except for especially vulnerable people and for people receiving the Ingreso Mínimo Vital or a non-contributory Social Security benefit (art. 10) | cannot be combined with other rent aid, including other aid of the Plan, except for the vulnerable groups it lists; it does not mention the Ingreso Mínimo Vital (art. 136) |
Two details of the new text. First, article 133 speaks of the income of the beneficiary and does not repeat that the income of the people living with them is added, as the Bono did; confirm in the call how income is counted. Second, with low rents the new aid can be smaller: with a rent of 400 € the 60 % is 240 €, while the Bono paid 250 €; with 700 € the 60 % would be 420 € and the aid stops at the cap of 300 € (our own calculation with article 137).
What happens next
Each community that applies the Plan must run open calls on a continuous and permanent basis (article 138). As of 17 October 2026 we have not found any that applies the 300 € aid, and there are no dates. The first additional provision allows these aids to be granted with effect from 1 January 2026; the text does not explain how each community will apply that. If your community does not join the Plan, or is the Basque Country or Navarre, this aid will not reach you this way.
What you can do
- Check the status of your community in the Bono Alquiler Joven card, with the table and the official links.
- If a call is open, read its rules: they prevail, even if the State rule says otherwise.
- Keep the contract and the empadronamiento at the rented home at hand (certificate, registering for the first time).
- Work out your income in multiples of the IPREM before preparing documents.
- If you are not from the EU, check that your permit counts as legal or regular residence under the call.
- Do not sign a contract counting on an aid that has not been called yet.
