Colombian passport online: Colombia's Foreign Ministry announced on 16 October 2026 that Colombians living abroad who meet the requirements can apply for their passport over the internet. There are two requirements: you must be an adult and have held a passport issued after 17 November 2017, with a successful fingerprint match in your previous application. The application is online, but delivery is in person.
What changes for you today
If you live in Spain and your last passport meets those requirements, you can start the procedure from home instead of going to the consulate first. If you do not meet them, the normal procedure still applies. Madrid consulate prices are in the guide Colombian Consulate in Madrid fees 2026. To book an appointment at another consulate, see the guide on appointments at the Colombian Consulate in Bilbao.
What happened
The Foreign Ministry published from Bogotá that the online passport is an alternative for renewing the document without doing everything in person. The Colombian Consulate in Madrid shared the news in its press room. It is a general announcement for Colombians abroad, not a measure only for Spain.
How it works now
The usual route is to book an appointment at the consulate for your area and do the procedure there. The ordinary passport costs 63 € if you apply in person at the Madrid consulate, according to its 2026 fee table. That price is for the in-person application: the cost of the online procedure is not published. The news also does not say since when the online service exists.
What changes
- Who can use it: adults with a previous passport issued after 17 November 2017 and a successful fingerprint match in that application. If your passport is older, this route is not for you.
- Which cases it covers: expiry, damage, no pages left, theft or loss, and voluntary change.
- What happens online: you fill in the form with your details and your previous passport number and attach a recent photo with a white background.
- What stays in person: delivery. You collect the passport at the office you chose when applying, in about 8 business days if it is a consulate, according to the Foreign Ministry's passports page.
- Conditions on that page: your previous passport must be electronic (ordinary or executive). At pickup you show the previous valid passport (unless stolen or lost) and the original, valid cédula de ciudadanía.
- What we do not know: the cost of the online procedure is not published (the Ministry's page only points to «Costos y medios de pago»), nor are the hours, and we could not check the form.
What happens next
The service is already available according to the Foreign Ministry, so there is no start date to wait for. If the Ministry publishes more conditions, costs or deadlines, we will update this news item.
What you can do
- Check the two requirements against your current passport before you start.
- Open the Foreign Ministry's online form, fill in your details and attach the white-background photo.
- Choose the delivery office carefully, because you will have to collect the passport there. Bring your previous passport (unless stolen or lost) and the original cédula.
- Check the cost on the official portal before paying: the 63 € price is for the in-person application in Madrid.
- Use official channels only. The Ministry warns not to go to intermediaries or hand personal data to third parties.
