In short: If you are Honduran and plan to marry in Spain, the Honduras consulate in Madrid issues two certificates for it: the Edicts Law certificate and the Marriage Capacity certificate. The consular fee is USD 25 and the appointment is free; the page does not say whether the fee is per certificate, so confirm with the Consulate. The single-status certificate is not issued by the Consulate: you request it in Honduras.
In person or by representative? The page does not say whether someone else may do the procedure for you. It asks for a physical Honduran DNI, so confirm with the Consulate before going.
First step
Before booking, ask the Spanish authority where you will marry (Civil Registry, notary, town hall or church) which documents they require.
Requirements
- Single-status certificate: the Consulate issues no civil-status or single-status certificates. You request it in Honduras (RNP, the National Registry of Persons), through a relative or a legal representative, with the authentication and the apostille, to present directly to the Spanish authorities. You do not need a Consulate certificate for that.
- Authenticated and apostilled: the Consulate does not require the RNP single-status certificate to be so, but before the Spanish authorities it must come from Honduras authenticated and apostilled.
- Marriage capacity: the Consulate needs to see the original, recent RNP single-status certificate; without it, it cannot issue the certificate. The edicts certificate does not need it.
Cost
- USD 25 consular fee. The page does not say whether it is per certificate: confirm when you book.
- You pay on the day of the appointment, by card or in cash through an ATM deposit. The euro amount is given that same day.
Documents
- A «Inscripción de Matrimonio» appointment (the name of the appointment type for these certificates). It is free. How to book: appointment at the Honduras consulate in Madrid.
- A physical, valid Honduran DNI. If you do not have it, a replacement for USD 25 (if you lost it or left it in Honduras) or enrolment (first registration of the DNI) the same day if you never applied, with your valid Honduran passport.
- The original, recent RNP single-status certificate (only for the marriage capacity certificate).
Steps
- Ask the Spanish authority that will marry you which documents it requires.
- Request the RNP single-status certificate in Honduras, with authentication and apostille, through a relative or legal representative.
- Book the «Inscripción de Matrimonio» appointment on the Consulate's official site.
- Attend with your DNI and the original single-status certificate.
- Pay the fee at the Consulate.
What the Consulate does not do
It does not celebrate marriages or register in the RNP those held outside Honduras. That registration is done with the RNP's General Secretariat, in person or through a legal attorney.
