In short: Royal Decree 831/2026 was published in the BOE on 15 October 2026 and entered into force the same day. It gives a direct grant of 709,500 EUR to the Spanish Olympic Committee to promote sport in the public network of migration centres and the integration of their residents. The money goes to an organisation, not to people.
What changes for you today
Nothing. There is no application or deadline for individuals. If you are looking for the international protection reception system, see the guide CEAR and the international protection reception system.
What happened
The Government approved this royal decree on 13 October, as we reported in Grant to the Spanish Olympic Committee for migration centres, and the BOE published the full text on 15 October, dated the 14th. Direct means without a public call: the decree names the beneficiary. The responsible department is the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. What is new compared with that earlier news is the official text with the details on deadlines and payment.
How it works now
There was no sport aid for residents of these centres in our guides, and the decree does not replace any. Before this publication we only knew the Council of Ministers summary; now there is a rule in force.
What changes
The published text gives details the Council of Ministers summary did not:
- Amount: 709,500 EUR, split into two axes, 409,500 EUR for practical activities and 300,000 EUR for awareness and communication. The annex splits the 409,500 EUR across eight programmes, the largest with 192,000 EUR for ambassadors in the refugee programme.
- Activities: talks by athletes in primary schools, athlete visits to centres, six Olympic medallists as ambassadors, permanent physical activity in five centres, sports equipment for six centres and resident visits to high-performance centres.
- Communication: campaigns by the Committee itself and at least three social media posts a month.
- Payment: a single advance charged to 2026, and the Committee must be up to date with its tax obligations. No guarantees are required.
- Control: the Committee must name the Ministry as funder in all its publicity. If it does not, it would have to repay 5% of the grant.
What happens next
The procedure starts ex officio on entry into force. The Committee has 15 days to submit a sports report, a detailed budget and a responsible declaration (we did not confirm whether calendar or working days). The Secretary of State for Migration must decide within six months; if the time passes with no decision, the Committee may treat the grant as refused by silence. Implementation runs until 31 October 2027 and the justification is submitted within the following three months, at the latest 31 January 2028.
What you can do
- If you live in a migration centre, ask at the centre whether Spanish Olympic Committee activities are planned: the decree does not say which specific centres take part.
- There is nothing to apply for as an individual.
- If you want to see the text, it is in the BOE (link below).
