The Ukrainian online school abroad that the Embassy of Ukraine describes is the International Ukrainian School (MUSh, in Ukrainian МУШ): a state lyceum that gives the Ukrainian school curriculum to children with Ukrainian citizenship who live outside Ukraine. On 29 September 2026 the Embassy in Spain reminded families about it. It is additional education: it does not replace school in Spain.

What changes for you today

Nothing changes in your obligations. In Spain, schooling is compulsory for children of school age (from 6 to 16 (art. 4 LOE)), and the MUSh does not replace it. If your child already goes to a Spanish school, the MUSh can be an add-on to keep up with the Ukrainian curriculum. For school accident cover, see the guide to school insurance. If your child is on temporary protection and you plan to apply for residence for them, school enrolment is one of the documents: see the guide to the child's permit (EX-25).

What happened

On 29 September 2026 the Embassy of Ukraine in Spain published a reminder about the MUSh. According to the Embassy, the school offers primary, basic and full secondary education to children with Ukrainian citizenship living outside Ukraine, free of charge. Children can study online at their own pace, and graduates receive Ukrainian state-standard education documents. Enrolment is flexible, with an individual plan: a child can complete up to three grades in one school year. The school was founded in 2007, works with more than 60 educational bodies in several countries and has more than 8,000 pupils, per the Embassy. The Embassy website blocks bots, so we read the text in a browser.

The MUSh also cooperates, free of charge, with Ukrainian centres abroad such as weekend schools: it provides methodological support, materials and the option to count the results a pupil achieved at a school in the country of residence.

How it works now

Before the reminder, the MUSh already ran under the conditions listed on its website: an external student is a Ukrainian citizen aged 6 or older who lives outside Ukraine. For grades 2 to 9, a certificate from the school in the country of residence with an official translation is requested (if there is none, an assessment of knowledge is done). For grade 10, documents of foreign basic education that have been recognised, or an assessment at the lyceum.

What would change

Nothing: this is not a bill, the offer is already running. The only new thing is the Embassy's reminder.

What happens next

The Embassy text gives no new deadlines. The admissions commission usually reviews applications within about 14 days and replies by email, per its documents page. Conditions can change: always check its website.

What you can do

  • Decide first whether you need it: the MUSh helps keep up the Ukrainian curriculum, it does not meet the duty to attend school in Spain.
  • Read the school's admission conditions and document list. In short, they ask for an application, a copy of the birth certificate or passport, previous school records (except grade 1), proof of residence abroad, contact details and a certified translation.
  • To apply, use the form and contacts on uis.org.ua. We do not give phone numbers or emails here: they can change.
  • MUSh documents are Ukrainian. What value they have in Spain for a given course or admission we did not find in official sources: ask the school or your region's education authority.
