In short: The authentication (auténtica) of Honduran consular documents is the SRECI stamp (Honduras' Foreign Ministry) needed to use in Honduras the documents issued by the Consulate in Madrid: authorizations, cartas poder, general and special powers. It is done online in two steps or in person in Honduras. It is not an apostille.

In person or by representative? You can choose between online and in person. The Consulate's page does not say whether someone else can do it for you or where the person paying the receipt must be: the source says to pay at an authorized bank in Honduras. Confirm with the Consulate before you start.

What it is for. According to the Consulate, the documents it issues (authorizations, cartas poder, general and special powers, among others) must be authenticated by the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (SRECI) to be used in Honduras and have legal effect. The authentication legalizes the signature on the document. Consular documents are not apostilled, they are authenticated, and the Consulate does not issue apostilles. To check whether an authentication is valid, you can verify it on the SRECI site.

Documents

  • The document issued by the Consulate, as a PDF or a clear, legible photo (online route) or on paper (in-person route).
  • The paid TGR-1 receipt, with a clear, legible photo (online route).

The Consulate does not state the receipt amount.

Three ways to do it

  • Online, from wherever you are, with the two steps below.
  • San Pedro Sula: SRECI window at the Chamber of Commerce, in Expocentro.
  • Tegucigalpa: SRECI headquarters, on Boulevard Kuwait.

For both in-person routes you go with your document issued by the Consulate.
