In short: you can apostille Ecuadorian documents in Spain at the Consulate of Ecuador in Valencia. You need an appointment (one per document), your Ecuadorian cédula or passport and the original document. It costs 30 € per document, in cash.

In person or by representative? The source asks for an appointment and for you to show your Ecuadorian cédula or passport together with the original document. It does not say whether someone else can go in your name. By default, plan to attend in person and check with the consulate before booking. You book the appointment in the official Cancillería appointment system.

An apostille certifies that the signature of the authority that signs an Ecuadorian public document is authentic, and in what capacity that authority acts, so the document can be presented abroad. You need one appointment per document: with three documents, you book three slots.

What to bring to the appointment:

  • Cédula de ciudadanía (Ecuadorian national ID card) or Ecuadorian passport.
  • The original document you want apostilled. When it applies, it must first carry the legalisation of the competent authority.
  • 30 € in cash per document, the exact amount.

Education documents. They must be legalised in Ecuador first:

  • Secondary education (bachiller degrees, graduation records and similar): by the Ministry of Education of Ecuador.
  • Higher education (university degrees, graduation records and similar): by SENESCYT, the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Criminal record. To apostille an Ecuadorian criminal record certificate, the consulate can print the certificate and continue the procedure.

Other documents. If yours is none of the above, someone must first check that it meets the requirements to be apostilled. The source does not explain how; ask the consulate.

What the source does not say: how long the procedure takes, how you receive the apostilled document, and what each Spanish institution requires. Ask the institution that requests the document.

Steps:

  1. Check that you have the original document and, for an education document, that it is already legalised in Ecuador.
  2. Book one appointment per document in the official Cancillería appointment system.
  3. Go to the appointment with your Ecuadorian cédula or passport and the original document.
  4. Pay 30 € per document in cash, the exact amount.
